That’s according to a big data analysis performed by Tuniu -- an online travel agency based in Nanjing, in Jiangsu province.
Harbin ranks third on the top 10 travel destination list, following Sanya in South China’s Hainan province and Lijiang in Southwest China’s Yunnan province. It is followed by Dali, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen, Mudanjiang, Hangzhou and Changchun.
The analysis found that most of the incoming tourists were from Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Shenyang, Suzhou and Wuhan.
Sanya and Lijiang are top choices for tourists who want to avoid the winter cold, while Harbin features ice and snow sightseeing in the extreme cold.
Among the must-see spots in Harbin are the national-level Yabuli Ski Resort and the world’s largest ice and snow entertainment park -- Harbin Ice and Snow World.
Harbin also has its annual Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, which is one of the world's four largest ice and snow festivals, along with the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan, the Quebec Winter Carnival in Canada and Norway's Ski Festival.
