On Aug 6, the century-old Harbin Symphony Orchestra delighted residents and tourists with a special concert for Harbin Music Day, resonating the "Sound of the Ice City."

Conducted by the orchestra's resident conductor, Li Yi, the performance commenced with the orchestral piece "Dongbeifeng," inspired by Northeast China's folk music and showcasing the robust, fresh, natural, simple and humorous characteristics of the region.

Subsequently, works by Russian composers deeply intertwined with Harbin's musical history, such as Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Jesters," Mussorgsky's "Dawn on the Moscow River," and Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise," were presented.

In an interview, conductor Li Yi said, "For this concert, we selected works by Russian composers closely related to Harbin's musical history and symphonic pieces with local characteristics. It embodies the open, inclusive, and vibrant spirit of Harbin, showcasing both the grandeur of the northern landscapes and pieces reflecting the daily lives of the people."
