As with the rising of temperature, migratory birds have also gradually returned to Harbin, the capital city of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province.

The city has recently seen the peak return of wild ducks.

Harbin is home to more than 20 kinds of wild ducks. Of which, many are under first-class or second-class protection in China.

The places with the best chances to watch these wild ducks in Harbin are Hejiagou, Majiagou, Baiyupao, the Songbei Grand Theater, Jinhe Bay and Sun Island.

Information from the Harbin forestry and grassland bureau shows that due to global climate change, these migratory birds have moved back earlier this year, and their distribution area has also moved northwards.

Some of these migratory birds will rest in Harbin and then continue north, while others will stay to breed offspring.

Harbin is rich in wetland resources, with an existing wetland area of 40,500 hectares. It has one internationally important wetland, eight provincial nature reserves, and 15 wetland parks, providing excellent habitat conditions for migratory birds.

Harbin is located in the East Asia-Australia Flyway, and is an important migratory breeding ground and resting place for migratory birds in Northeast Asia. There are 492 species of birds that migrate through this route every year, among which are as many as 50 million water birds.
