Harbin offers agricultural feast

The 2013 Agriculture & Food Expo Harbin, in conjunction with the sixth Beidahuang International Agriculture Machinery Exhibition of Heilongjiang, China, will be held at the Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sport Center from Sept 5 to 8.

The two exhibitions are jointly sponsored by the Heilongjiang provincial government and the Harbin municipal government. The total exhibition area is 81,000 square meters. A total of 1,500 enterprises from China and nine other countries and regions, such as Germany, France, Italy, Australia and Spain, are set to join the event.

According to the head of the organizing committee, highlights of the event include the gathering of world famous delicacies and the display of frontier agricultural technologies.

The US will bring agricultural products such as meat, seafood, fruits, nuts and processed food. Italy will feature traditional Modena vinegar, Tuscan wine, Parma sausage and Meseta coffee. Germany, participating for the second time, will cook specialties on the spot. Australia will exhibit several boutique wineries.

The expo has also set up a special zone for wine. A mini winery is going to provide professionals with interactive activities like tasting and etiquette introduction. The Harbin International Wine Competition will be held for the same time, in which domestic experts are invited to evaluate hundreds of wine worldwide.

Meanwhile, the World Agricultural Development Forum, themed “Ecological Agriculture and Grain Safety”, will open. Yuan Longping, “the Father of Hybrid Rice”, and Bai Meiqing, chief representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and head of the China National Association of the Grain Sector, will attend the forum.
