Route 3: Wuguocheng site -- Erlong Mountain Tourism Area
The Wuguocheng site is located in the northwest of Yilan county, covering an area of 38,000 square meters.
In the Liao Dynasty (916-1125), the "shengnv zhenren" -- living in the lower reaches of the Songhua River, Heilongjiang River and Wusuli River -- established the five tribes of the Yueliji, Aolimi, Poaili, Pennuli and Yuelidu there.
Erlong Mountain Tourism Area is located in the southwest of Binxian county, 50 km from the eastern side of Harbin.
Named after Erlong Lake, a large reservoir built in 1958 and occupying 25 sq km, the complex integrates flood controls, irrigation, an urban water supply, fishing and tourism into one system. The area is also a great place to enjoy ice and snow in winter. It has one of the largest ski resorts in China and can accommodate up to 2,000 skiers.
The area was selected as a national 4A-grade scenic site in 2001. Each year, about one million visitors from around the world visit Erlong Mountain to escape the summer heat or take a relaxing vacation.
